Measuring Instructions
Measuring for your blinds and shades is a simple, but critical part of decorating your windows.
Tips:
- Be sure to use a metal measuring tape.
- Measure every window, even if they look the same size.
- Do not take deductions for an inside mount, because the factory takes deductions. Outside mount blinds are made the size that you order, no deductions.
- Round all measurement off to the nearest 1/8 inch.
- Always check for obstructions, such as cranks, locks and alarm sensors, that could interfere with the installation or operation of your blinds
Inside vs outside mount:
- Most people prefer an inside mount blind if the window has enough depth.
- Consult the depth chart.
| Minimum inside mount | Minimum flush mount | |
| Wood and faux wood blinds | 1 inch | 3 inches |
| Cellular shades | 3/4 inch | 1 1/2 inch |
For inside mount:
- Measure the width (side to side) of the window opening at the top, middle and bottom and give us the smallest measurement.
- Measure the length (up and down) of the window opening on the left, middle and right and give us the smallest measurement.
For outside mount:
With trim
- Measure the width (side to side) of the window including the trim at the top, middle and bottom and give us the smallest measurement.
- Measure the length (up and down) of the window including the trim on the left, middle and right and give us the smallest measurement.
- If you have a window sill and want the blind to stop at the sill measure from the top of the trim down to the sill.
Without trim
- Measure the window opening as per the “inside mount” instructions above and add 4-5” for the width and the length to give you privacy. Remember to watch out for walls, handles or any other obstruction.
